A short history of the resort
In the late 1800's a sawmill was established in this valley.
The dam was constructed in the 1920's and the land became a hunting camp for the Silversteen family of Brevard.
Mr. William Schmidt purchased the property in the early 60's and began to build cottages. in 1964 he opened Rainbow Lake Square Dance Resort.
In the 70's Mr. Schmidt died and his son-in-law Marshall Welch and daughter Gracie ran the resort. The main lodge burned down in the early 80s and the Welches sold the property to Ms. Seabe and Pacher.
The Rainbow Lake Complex consists of a 12 1/2 acre core parcel that includes a 3 acre lake and dam, open fields, wedding event structures, seven one bedroom cottages and a maintenance building. The core parcel was purchased in 1984 by K-Sa-Ra Inc. with 50% share to Kathleen Seabe and 50% share to Sara Pacher. In 1994 Donald Barrett purchased Ms. Pacher’s share of the property. The cabins were upgraded, winterized and turned into vacation rentals. The grounds and lake were upgraded, dredged and a wedding pavilion and gazebo were added in 2008. Allunits are heated with heat pumps.
The Original Rainbow Lake Resort includes cottages A to I, the lake and grounds, owned by K Sa Ra Inc.
The resort has grown over the years and Ms. Seabe and Mr. Barrett purchased several properties surrounding the lake, adding Cottages J and K (one bedroom units), L (3 bedroom), O (2 bedroom), Q ( 2BR up, 2BR down, or 4BR) and T ( 3BR). These additional cottages adjoin the lake except T and are separately deeded.
